Hearing Aids

What is a Hearing Aid?

A hearing aid is a small electronic device worn outside or inside the ear by a person with hearing difficulties. Hearing aids help to make sounds louder and clearer for the user by amplifying the surrounding sound waves. Modern hearing aids are digital and more compact. Like a computer, the latest hearing aids are equipped with AI technology, Bluetooth technology, noise reduction, and feedback cancellation capabilities.

Types of Hearing Aid

There are many styles and hearing aids that vary in size, color, special features, and the way they fit in your ears. Your hearing condition and lifestyle are important factors when choosing your hearing aids. Consult your hearing care professional to find out which hearing aid suits you best.

Behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids

Behind-the-ear hearing aids are tiny and elegant devices that are relatively discreet. The electrical components of these hearing aids are stored in a small, plastic casing worn behind your ears. Sound is then transmitted via a wire or tube that goes into the ear canal.

Traditional behind-the-ear (BTE)

Traditional BTE hearing aids are slightly larger than their RITE counterparts. The speaker can be found in the casing of the device and sound is sent to the ear via a tube.

Receiver-in-the-ear (RITE/RIC)

RITE hearing aids are also known as Receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aids. They are smaller than traditional BTE ones and are popular among wearers due to their size, comfort, and weight.

In-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids

ITE hearing aids are a range of custom-made devices that are discreet and individually moulded to fit the contours of the wearer’s ear. The main ITE hearing aid styles include ITC, CIC, and IIC hearing aids.

In-the-canal (ITC)

ITC hearing aids come with control buttons that allow you to change the programme and volume.
As this type of hearing aids are a little larger as compared to their CIC counterparts, individuals who are looking for a more discreet option may prefer CIC or IIC hearing aids.

Completely-in-the-canal (CIC)

CIC hearing aids sit fully inside the ear canal. However, they may still be visible from certain angles.
To ensure that these hearing aids are as discreet as possible, you can match the colour of the faceplate to the colour of your ear.

Invisible-in-the-canal (IIC)

Each IIC hearing aid is tailored to match the contours of your ear such that it sits far inside the ear canal.
These hearing aids are the most discreet option and cannot be seen by others.
